Flail Mower
A agricultural flail mower is a type of agricultural or landscaping equipment used for cutting grass, weeds, and other vegetation. It consists of a rotating drum or cylinder with multiple small blades, called flails, attached to it. The flails are usually made of metal and are arranged in a staggered pattern around the drum.
Unlike a sickle bar or rotary mower, which use a single large blade or a set of blades, a flail mower relies on the small, swinging flails to do the cutting. As the drum rotates, the flails spin rapidly, striking the vegetation and cutting it. The cut vegetation is then typically discharged behind the mower or chopped into smaller pieces.
Agricultural flail mowers are known for their durability and ability to handle tough cutting conditions. The design of the flails allows them to handle thick, tall, or tangled vegetation more effectively than other types of mowers. They can handle materials such as heavy grass, brush, small branches, and even light shrubs.
The agricultural flail mower’s versatility makes it suitable for various applications, including agricultural use, roadside maintenance, vegetation control in orchards or vineyards, and landscaping tasks in rough or uneven terrains.
One advantage of agricultural flail mowers is their ability to provide a more uniform and finer cut compared to rotary mowers. The swinging action of the flails results in a scissor-like cutting motion, which can produce a cleaner finish.
Flail mowers are available in different sizes and configurations, ranging from smaller, walk-behind models to larger, tractor-mounted or tow-behind models, depending on the intended use and the size of the area to be cut.
