Track drive planetary gearbox, also known as track drive, is a transmission device designed specifically for tracked walking mechanisms. This type of gearbox is usually applied to heavy-duty machinery such as excavators, bulldozers, armored vehicles, agricultural machinery, and any other tracked equipment. It amplifies the torque generated by the power source (usually an internal combustion engine or an electric motor) and converts it into the appropriate speed and torque required to drive the tracked chain through a complex gear set, thereby achieving precise control of the forward, backward, and turning movements of the entire tracked chassis. Track driven gearboxes typically have high load-bearing capacity and durability, and can maintain reliable working conditions in harsh environments.
Working Principle of Track Drive
A track drive gearbox is a transmission device specifically designed to drive the movement of tracked vehicles or mechanical equipment. The core function of a track driven gearbox is to convert the high-speed small torque of the engine or electric motor into the low-speed large torque required to drive the track, ensuring that tracked equipment can operate efficiently and reliably under various terrain conditions.

Track driven gearboxes typically receive raw power from the engine or electric motor, which is transmitted to the interior of the gearbox through a clutch (if driven by an internal combustion engine) or directly connected (if driven by an electric motor).
The gearbox contains a multi-stage gear set, through which the small torque input of high-speed rotation is converted into a low-speed large torque output. This is to overcome the resistance encountered during track walking, such as heavy loads, soil resistance, or the large torque requirements required for climbing.
The gear at the output end transfers power to the track drive wheel (also known as the sprocket). The teeth on the track drive wheel mesh with the teeth on the track link. When the drive wheel rotates, the track will move forward or backward with the rotation of the drive wheel, achieving the vehicle’s forward, backward or turning.
The track drive gearbox can also adjust speed and torque output through the control system to adapt to different operating conditions. In addition, the working status of the gearbox is monitored through sensors, such as temperature, oil pressure, etc., to ensure that the gearbox operates within a safe range.
