What is a Wheel Jack?

A wheel jack is a wheel that is attached to the tongue of your trailer. It helps to raise and lower your trailer to the height of the hitch on your car. This helps when attaching the trailer to your vehicle and removing it from your trailer.

Keep the car upright.
The space trailer's wheel jack helps keep it upright when not connected to the vehicle. If you don't have one on your trailer, it will lean forward until its tongue lands on the ground. This may not damage your trailer, but letting the trailer tilt down is not convenient. Especially if there are any heavy objects in the trailer, it may bring unnecessary weight/pressure to the tongue.
Easier trailer handling
The wheel jack is attached to the trailer and can be manipulated more easily without being connected to the vehicle. For example, suppose you spend the night in a hotel and want to park your trailer next to a vehicle. You can remove it from the car and move it to your parking space. All you need to do is push it to where you want it. If your trailer does not have wheel jacks, it will make moving more difficult.

What size tongue jack do I need for my trailer?

When choosing the right tongue holder, you should consider height and weight.
Height is essential because the jack needs to be high enough to lift the connector to remove the hitch ball from the vehicle. The height measurement on the tongue jack description is often referred to as the "extended" height. To calculate the height, measure the height from the ground to the bottom of the coupler. This measurement must be carried out with the trailer horizontal.
Determine the weight required for the tongue jack by calculating the tongue weight of the trailer. The rule of thumb for boat trailers is 7-10% of the weight of a fully loaded trailer. If you have a 6000-pound trailer, take 10%; for example, you will need a tongue jack with a capacity of 600 pounds. Most tongue jacks on the market will exceed your trailer tongue weight requirements and will not be too large or expensive.
