Gearbox for Crane & Hoist
On Crane and Hoist equipment, there are three main parts that use gearboxes to convert and adjust power output to achieve different actions. We can provide you with the perfect solution for lifting and moving cranes
Where are Gearboxes on the Crane?
1.Travel Drivers
The travel drive system is mainly used for the forward and backward movement as well as left and right rotation of cranes.
2.Cross Travel Mechanism
For bridge cranes, the function of this gearbox is to control the left and right translational motion of the crane on the main beam, ensuring a smooth and accurate lateral movement process.
3.Lifting or Hoisting Mechanism
The core function of a crane is to lift and lower loads, achieving vertical upward or downward movement.
Travel Drives
The Travel Drivers gearbox in the crane drive device is one of the core components of a mobile crane. Its main function is to provide and regulate the power and speed required for the crane to travel or turn on the bridge.
Hoist Drives
Used for precise and secure load handling. The crane drive device with a load of 3.2 to 40 tons (rope winding 4/1, FEM 2 meters) has complete safety and reliability.
Chain & Entertainment Hoists
The Travel Drivers gearbox in the crane drive device is one of the core components of a mobile crane. Its main function is to provide and regulate the power and speed required for the crane to travel or turn on the bridge.

Selection Guide for Gearbox
1. Principle of torque calculation and power matching
Torque calculation: Firstly, calculate the output torque required by the transmission system based on the actual working requirements of the crane or crane. This usually involves factors such as load weight, lifting height, and pulley efficiency. The approximate formula is: required torque=load weight × Raise height × Efficiency/(2 π) × Roll radius).
Power matching: Determine the rated power of the prime mover (such as an electric motor) and ensure that it can provide sufficient power to drive the gearbox to produce the required torque. Simultaneously consider the power margin of the motor during full load operation, as well as the transmission efficiency of the gearbox itself, to ensure the stability and reliability of the entire transmission system.
2. Choose the appropriate gearbox model based on different Crane&Hoist models
Model characteristics: Analyze the working characteristics of different Crane&Hoist models, such as lifting speed, walking speed, turning speed, etc., and select gearboxes with corresponding reduction ratios based on these parameters.
Structural design: Consider factors such as installation space, connection method, and axial force transmission direction of the equipment, and choose a gearbox model that can adapt to these conditions structurally.
Performance requirements: Select gearbox products that meet performance indicators based on the rated lifting capacity, maximum lifting height, working system type, etc. of the equipment.
3.Selection strategy considering environmental factors, load requirements
Environmental factors: If the equipment will be used in extreme temperature, humidity, and corrosive environments, a gearbox made of special materials with high protection level should be selected to ensure its normal operation under harsh conditions.
Load requirements: In addition to conventional loads, possible impact loads and dynamic loads on the gearbox should also be considered to ensure that the selected gearbox has sufficient overload capacity and good impact resistance.
