This PTO shaft with slip clutch is built of sturdy steel and features 1-3/8" 6-spline on the tractor and implement ends. Slip Clutch PTO Shaft Features

(1) Durable PTO Shaft. This T4 tiller PTO shaft is built from high-quality 20CrMnTi carburized steel and Q345 tube steel with a black-painted surface. It is durable enough to withstand large impacts, higher torque, and high speed.

(2) Perfect Match. With 43"-59" extendable length and featuring 1-3/8" 6-spline on both tractor and implement ends (including a slip clutch), the PTO link shaft perfectly fits powered farm equipment or machinery of the same size.

(3) Powerful Transmission Force. Our PTO shaft stands out with superior power-transfer ability. At 540 rpm it can provide 35 hp, 26 kw, and 460 nm torque; 53hp, 39kw, and 360 nm at 1000 rpm.

(4) Structure Analysis. The PTO shaft is assembled in a compact structure consisting of a slip clutch, a telescoping tube, a universal joint, yokes, a plastic shield, and a chain for protection. It allows two speeds on both ends and transfers the power into the equipment.

What is a Slip Clutch for PTO Shaft?

You’ve probably seen one before; they’re a simple round disc and spring device found on most PTO-driven rotary mowers. A PTO shaft slip clutch is a torque-limiting device that, when overcome with too much torque, limits the amount of torque being transferred from the tractor to the implement. This is accomplished by, you guessed it, slipping or spinning free, which allows the two sides of the PTO shaft to turn at different speeds. Slip clutches are commonly provided with bush hogs and rotary tilling devices but can also be used with most PTO-driven devices such as post-hole augers, hay tedders, balers, cordwood saws, and other common farm equipment.

PTO Shaft Slip Clutch Applications

The slip clutch is used to protect equipment or the tractor PTO shaft. Slip clutches are used with the tractor PTO shafts. The tractor uses two categories of employment, the passive and the ones with rotary or gear mechanisms. For example, a tiller and a harrow are passive implements. Both of these implements are pulled by the tractor. Downwards pressure is applied with the hydraulics system.

The implements like a rotary tiller or a bush hog require the PTO drive engagement to perform the rotary action for more effective operation. Tractor PTOs create high torque to deal with rough terrain or to change the landscape. The rotary blades clear the ground, break the soil, or cut small trees. But there might be some rocks and dead animals that can get stuck inside the rotor.

For example, when a rotary cutter or a disc mower is engaged with the PTO shaft. Their blades cut anything below the cover of the mover. Sometimes there are rocks or dead vermins on the ground. They get stuck inside the rotors as there is no way to detect them. This can be damaging to the gearbox. If the gearbox stays intact, the extra force can damage the PTO shaft or the PTO drive itself.

To overcome these issues slip clutches are used. When the back torque becomes more than the torque applied by the PTO shaft, the slip clutch slips to adjust the torque. The friction plates inside the clutch act as breaks to slow the motion down.

Installation of the PTO Shaft

①Apply lubricating grease (No.2 file base grease or gear oil as required) on the universal joint bearing, prepare the oil seal, put it on the cross shaft, press it into the universal joint fork, telescopic sleeve fork, and flange fork holes at the front and rear transmission shaft end respectively, and then install the cover plate and lock ring, tighten and lock it.
② Apply grease to the telescopic sleeve of the drive shaft, then put the fork on the spline shaft of the rear PTO shaft and screw the oil seal cap.
③ Connect the flange fork of the front transmission shaft with the flange of the second PTO shaft and install the front PTO shaft on the middle support bracket of the transmission shaft. After combustion, install the cross joints at both ends of the rear transmission shaft onto the flange fork of the front PTO shaft and the rear axle driving gear shaft with bolts and tighten the flange fixing bolts and nuts.
④ PTO shaft spline sheath and cross shaft oil nozzle must be complete.
